It was so nice I bought it twice...

| This is a great water filter and it gets plenty of use in my household. If anything I could say "I wish it held more water," (I drink 3+ litres of water a day and it seems that I am always filling the darned thing up) - but that would be an unreasonable request. Who would want a dispenser so large that it would be unwieldy to carry to the refrigerator? No one - not even me. So I bought a second one so that one of them is always full! This dispenser is slim so that I can easily fit two side by side in my refrigerator. (Can't have too much of a good thing!) And this filter/dispenser is definitely good - it has a large fill "basket" and the 2 stage filter produces water that is completely taste and odor free. I could easily tell the difference in my drinking water! Lastly, the filters (with usage indicators) are long-lasting. I have filled my first dispenser twice a day for 1 1/2 months and it still hasn't reached the half way point. Very impressive results! Highly recommend. |
Much better than faucet-mount...

| My wife and I have immensely enjoyed the wonderful water we get from our Pur filtration pitcher, which uses the same filters as this dispenser. It's very convenient -- just pour water into the top, and it will, albeit slowly, drip through the filter. Over time, as the filter clogs, it will get slower, so the key is to add more water every time you pour more out -- that way, it's filtering while you are drinking and you aren't waiting. It's actually much more convenient than the faucet-mount filters, which inevitably leak and get painfully slow and force you to wait... Pur is better than Brita, by the way, if you get the Ultimate filters, which filter out cryptosporidium and giardia in addition to chemicals and gunk. Brita doesn't do that; it's an important feature if you have iffy water systems (Mexico, Russia) or a weak immune system... |

I had the bigger Pur Dispenser when I lived in Las Vegas and loved it to death. Being in the military I recently moved to South Korea, where the water is a nice dark brown coming from the tap. Yum Yum. I picked up the Pur Pitcher and the water from it is absolutly purfect. But with my need of more water all the time (and I leave my Pur Pitcher at work now) I picked up the 2-Stage dispenser. By far better than lugging bottled water and it even seems to taste better than bottled, not to mention the money I save with this filter. I couldn't be happier...it will filter mud into pure crystal clear water. Good stuff, highly recommend this filter.
Add on : I have had this filter for a little over a year now.......and I know it filters out a lot of junk due to the fact that I have to clean out the unfiltered tray about once a month because a layer of Mud forms in the bottom (Yeah, mud!) So I am using this filter in extreme conditions, and it is doing GREAT!!!!!

| Yes I'll admit it, everytime we went grocery shopping we lugged home a few big bottles of "spring water" (what the heck does that mean anyways and why do we think it's better then our tap water, I mean what is really in those plastic jugs?). Given this sudden realization recently I went on a quest to pick a water filter for our tap water, and decided upon this dispenser and I'm so glad I did! It's super easy to fill up, fits nicely into the fridge (plus it's my favorite shade of blue, that's a plus right?) and OMG this is what water is supposed to taste like, nothing... pure & clean & crisp (are you sure this is from my tap?) It's wonderful! I find myself happily filling up a glass with water to drink now instead of juice or tea etc. |

This is a great Water Filtration System.
We recently moved to the Washington DC area where the water tastes like metal and chlorine. My Fiance is something of a water afficionado, she would rather dehydrate and die than drink what she calls "yucky water", and if it wasn't in a bottle from a store then chances were she wouldn't drink it.
In our last place we had a Brita filter attached to our sink, from our experience and from what I've read, these things, Brita and PUR, have a tendancy to get clogged and break, as was the case with ours.
Also from reading I found out that Brita does not filter out bacteria, not that it's something most people need to worry about in chemically saturated city water but it's always better safe than sorry.
This System fits perfectly in our fridge, it holds a lot more water than some of the others I've seen and doesn't need to be refilled nearly as often because of that.
The water tastes great and even the Water Afficionado will happily guzzle it down.
I noticed a few reviewers complaining that the filters dont inform you of the quality of the water but rather just try to give you an estimate of the filters life and when to replace it.
Thats true and it's also worth noting that none of the consumer level water filters will actually tell you the quality of the water, filtration systems of that nature would be considerably more expensive than these. And would most likely require electronic parts that exceeded the standard red light green light functionality.
Anyway, it works great, the filters seem to have a long life, it fits nicely in the fridge and we're both very happy with the quality of the water that the filter produces. We bought ours over a month ago along with a triple pack of replacement filters and have yet to replace the one that came in the box.

At first, I was a little surprised at the amount of cash I was going to have to pay for this filter. But my husband and I were moving to a part of the former Soviet Union, and we had no idea what could be lurking in the water there. After 2 weeks of being here, and using this filter, I truly say I love it! We have had no problems with leaking, black specks in the water or anything. The size is wonderful. I use it to make tea and coffee with, and basically on any food that will not be boiled. My husband was brave enough to try the water from the tap (the stuff the nationals don't even drink!) and then tried the purified version. What a difference!
I did do a bit of research before buying. I was going to buy a Brita, but after many reviews from people who weren't very happy with it, I went with Pur. I'm very glad I did. I have NO complaints at all.
Thank you Pur for making a wonderful product! |

| After being frustrated for many years over the riding costs of bottled water and the disgusting taste of tap water, we decided to follow all the great advice from other users on this site, about the PUR Water Dispenser. From the start, the PUR Water Dispenser worked great. The filter lasted well beyond its average usage, and the easy indicator helped us know when was the right time to change it...unlike the Brita filter. We found the water taste to be far superior than bottled waters including Arrowhead and Aquafina. With this PUR water dispenser, there is no need to ever buy water again. |

I live in Peru, in the Andes where, for `gringos', it is imperative to have filtered water or expensive bottle water. I have tested the water that is piped from the town water supply and it had fecal contamination.
I have used the Pur Dispenser for two years and, knock on plastic, have never be sick from bacterial enteropathogens. We are also careful in food preparation (Duh). Though the filter is slated for 40 gallons I have used it for at least twice that with good results.
I highly recommend, both the dispenser, and filter for those that have (or suspect they have) contaminate water. |
Great water filtration

| I Previously owned a PUR pitcher filter. It was great but it didn't hold enough so I bought the larger model. Much beter. Holds twice as much and takes very little room in the fridge. The filtration is the best. Much better than the BRITA which I compared. The chlorine content in my local water is very high and has a very strong odor when I fill the container. There is absolutely no chlorine smell after the water is filtered so I imagine the effectiveness is just as good as removing other contaminents as well. It's also so much cheaper than buying bottled water whcih sometimes tasted funny. (Sparkletts) |

For a long time, I thought I was merely fooling myself that this water filter made much difference. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago, when I unconsciously grabbed a glass of tap water by mistake, that I realized it was not my imagination. One sip of tap water and I knew something was VERY wrong.
We drink lots of water in our house, and we use this larger size dispenser so that we can make coffee and iced tea with water that tastes good. In fact, it works so well that I am looking to buy a refrigerator that uses PUR as the filtration system. I just wish the price of replacement filters would come down, but it's worth it for good water. |

We got this pitcher for our family of 6 almost 3 years ago, and have used it constantly since. It does fit nicely in a fridge, but we keep it on the counter because it gets used so often and I don't like the fridge door opening all the time. We have a smaller Brita pitcher for the fridge, and there is a HUGE difference in the taste. The Pur is much better. We live in NYC, which has heavily chlorinated water. With this Pur filter, we can't taste the chlorine at all.
We have found that after a couple of weeks (sometimes less) the filters really slow down. At first we'd just replace them, because even with replacing the filter every couple of weeks it's cheaper to filter water than to buy it pre-bottled. (My daughter just did a science project on the fact that bottled water is almost completely unregulated, so filtering your own tested/regulated tap water is probably safer anyway.) However, we have since discovered that if you pull the filter out and soak it in cold water for 10 minutes, the same as you do when starting a new filter, the drip speed increases again. Now our filters really last the month or two they're supposed to.
I have never had a problem with mold or mildew with this dispenser, a problem that some people have with Britas. I wash it every once in a while when I see dust in the top part, but I'm really amazed at how clean and fresh it has stayed all these years. It is really convenient to use though it's a little heavy to return to the fridge once it's filled (another reason ours stays on the counter).
I'm on this page now just because our dispenser has (finally) started to leak from the spout. There aren't many products that can be used heavily for 3 years without a single problem! So after I finish this review, I'm going to buy another one. I don't know of any better, safer, cheaper, more delicious way to keep a large family hydrated.

PUR is better than BRITA

I used BRITA filters for at least three and half years. Some earlier reviews said that BRITA filters produce little black particles in the water, I, too, experienced the same problem, even with new BRITA filters. Finally, about a month ago, I decided to switch to PUR. Not a single black particle appears in the water or the filter. Plus, the water tastes great, so crisp that it is almost a bit sweet. (To me, PUR water tastes much better than BRITA, and at least just as good as Dasani bottled water.) The dispenser has a faucet that saves the trouble of lifting the whole dispenser and pouring water.I am glad that I switched.

Beats Bottled Water in Every Way!

I purchased two of these dispensers in January 2008. One I keep in my refrigerator, the other on the counter top. I purchased four four-packs of filters with the units, and I still have two of those left, after almost a year of daily use. I absolutely love these dispensers and have had absolutely no problem with leakage or anything else.
The dispenser is very easy to carry with insert-handles on either side that are easily gripped. When the dispenser is almost empty I take it to the sink, fill it up and then wait for the water to filter down a little bit before returning it to the area where I keep it. It is true that the filtering sometimes takes an hour or more to complete but I have not found that to be a problem. Pur recommends not using the water until the filtration process is complete, although the company doesn't state why.
The dispenser holds 144 ounces or 1.125 gallons. The filters are stated to efficiently filter 40 gallons before replacement is recommended. Therefore, you can fill up one dispenser 35 times before you'll need to replace the filter. To be on the safe side I usually replace the filter after 30 fill-ups. It's easy to keep track of the number of times you fill up the tank by simply marking the decal that comes with each filter or using a little notebook to check off the refill times. Thus, I would not recommend topping it off after every use like some reviewers stated they do, because it would be difficult to keep track of how much water the filter has actually processed.
Earlier this year, information regarding the danger of certain plastics containing BPAs came to light. I have not been able to determine what type of plastic these containers are made of, and thus don't know if this dispenser poses any problems regarding BPA contamination. I do hope that Pur and/or Brita will soon offer a stainless steel dispenser which will eliminate that concern. Of course, stainless steel dispensers will be heavier, however, I think the trade-off is worth the peace of mind.
In the meantime, this dispenser is convenient, easy to use and provides a far less expensive and far more 'green' way of drinking filtered water.

| Living here in Texas we dring allot of iced tea with meals at home and restaurants. I received my Pure Plus dispenser last week and made my first pitcher of iced tea. I was blown away at how much better it was, this thing is amazing. It not only makes water better than bottled but has the capacity to hold much more than the little pitchers you so often see. |

| I have had this dispenser for about a month now and couldn't be happier. I have owned a pitcher by Pur for several years and love it. I decided to get the dispenser because my wife and I drink a lot of water and we were having to refill our pitcher 3 or 4 times a day. Just like my pitcher the dispenser provides great tasting water. With the 1 gallon capacity of this unit I only have to refill it once a day or less and it is much easier to fill a glass using the spout rather than having to remove a pitcher from the fridge. My one small (very small) complaint is the amount of time it takes for the water to pass through the filter...VERY slowly. Although to be honest I probably wouldn't complain if I hadn't already owned the Pur pitcher and known how much faster that filter is. Overall I'm very happy with this item and highly recommend it. |
Large capacity, fridge-friendly, water tastes of.....water!

I reasearched a lot of water filter jugs before deciding on the PUR Ultimate Water Dispenser.
It comes with filter, and is very easy to assemble - the jub is in two parts - the base unit which captures the filtered water, and has a two-stage tap built in. The tap can be pushed halfway for control, or clicks in position if you are filling a large container. The upper part of the main unit is the tap water reservoir.
The unit is relatively tall, but fits comfortably under a standard sink tap. When the reservoir is full of water it is a little heavy, but that's what you get for wanting greater water capacity.
The water volume is great which means not having to refill as often.
My fridge isn't huge, but this fits snugly on the top shelf - it takes up exactly the full depth of the fridge shelf with the tap hanging nicely over the edge of the shelf. The width is just a few inches (around 5 inches).
So capacity is great, the water tastes excellent - I hadn't realised how much 'taste' my tap water had, until I compared it to the filtered water.
It seems quite robust, and the filters are availebl through Amazon at under $30 for 3.
Two friends have already purchased this based on seeing/trying mine.
Couldn't be happer with it. |

The Perfect Solution

Our tap water has a pretty bad taste so my husband was constantly buying those huge packs of bottled water. Despite my complaints that it was expensive and generated too much waste, he was reluctant to stop buying it because it was convenient. Well, I would have to agree with him there, it was convenient to just grab a cold bottle out of the fridge and go, but there just had to be a better way.
I thought of having bottled water delivered (again) but the monthly expense and hassle (those heavy bottles!) nixed that idea. The grocery store sells those same bottles without having to committ to a montly bill, just buy what you need, but again, lugging that thing into the car and then out of the car when we got home was not going to get it. Plus we'd have to buy another dispenser or rent one so that was out.
Next I thought of one of the faucet dispensers, but our kitchen is already teeny tiny and that just seemed like something that would get in the way. Also, it seemed you had to replace the filters on those things way too often. It also didn't solve the issue of being able to grab a cold one out of the fridge (it is not THAT cold out of the faucet--especially during the summer) so no-go on that idea.
Then the idea of a filtering pitcher came to mind, but we both want to increase our intake of water so I knew we would need something larger. To my pleasant suprise, there are dispensers that sit in the fridge. Cool. Now which one? The first name that popped in my head was Brita, but the review and the price on their comparable product was not that great. The reviews for the PUR dispenser were much better and so was the price so I decided to give it a try.
Wow! This thing is great. I didn't really think anything would filter out the awful taste from our tap water (it is so bad that hubby will not drink tap water when we run out of bottled water), but low and behold it does! It tastes like I am drinking bottled water from the store. The slim design fits easily in our fridge and it is so easy to use. We fill up our Camelbak bottles and just go. When it starts to get low we fill it back up and it is usually ready for the next fill up.
So let's see, no big packs of bottle water and excessive waste, no heavy 5/10 gallon bottles to lift, no monthly bill, cold water ready to grab and go (well we fill up our Camelbak bottles, but not much different) never runs out, inexpensive filters that last 2 months.
Perfect. |

| Held off three months before scribing this. First impressions may be wrong impressions. Second, shipping issues aren't product performance. And there weren't any here. The product performance exceeds expectations. Hometown water is municipal well water. Not bad really but not to die for or from either. So we were a bottled water clan. Gallons, quarts, liters, half liters, you get the picture. Buy the water, clutter the landfill, worry about the plastic leachate etc. Well, most of that is resolved here. Yes, this is a plastic dispenser but my friends and acquaintences in the medical and water purification business all agree this plastic doesn't leach into the water. Others have commented on the PUR filters and water quality and the taste exceeds many national filtered water brands I pass in the shopping aisles every week. I secretly take pleasure at the money I don't spend on all these jugs and bottles now. I have faithfully followed the manufacturers recommendations on filter replaceent and the severe taste critics living here under the same roof (daughters) unanimously agree that it passes their discerning palates for refreshment and nose for clarity. Well if that isn't a ringing endorsement. Amazon price best. |
PUR DS-1800Z - 2 STAGE FILTER WATER DISPENSER

| Reviewer: KEN TELLS ALL, NYC |
After 2 years of use this is my review - This is a great product. I never liked drinking tap water because of a slight after taste. I live in Manhattan, NY and we are supposed to have some of the best tasting water in the country. I would confirm this to be true because I have been to other cities in this country and it does have less of an after taste. Pure water is supposed to be tasteless! This product comes as close to this as far as I can taste. Bottled water usually picks up a taste from the plastic container it is stored in. The bottles are cheap and made of substances which, when exposed to heat, has a negative chemical affect on the health quality of the water. This product is NSF approved. This means that the plastic the container is made of does not have substances that react with water. This product has turned my whole family into water drinkers. We stopped drinking soda and artificial fruit drinks and drink only water filtered by this device from PUR !!!
The design is slim and tall so that it does not take up a lot of room in your side by side refrigerator. It is expensive to run but worth it. Each filter is supposed to purify about 40 gallons of water. You can tell when the filter needs to be replaced when it takes more than 2 hours for the water in the top tank to empty into the lower tank or you notice a taste difference in the water. How long your filter lasts depends on just how dirty your water is. Water with more particles will cause the filter to clog faster. My NYC tap water allows from 35 to 40 refills of the top tank before it needs replacement. This product saves money and is ecology friendly to the environment. This is a good product and well worth the money. |
