Costly, but worth it (Price comparison with Brita)

I'm currently a college student living with 5 other guys and we use Brita filter at the apartment. When you cook with Brita filter, you can't taste a thing, but when you just drink the water, it taste like tap/toilet water. It also leaves those black stuff (part of the filter) on the bottom of the container. Personally, that's just weird and nasty, but maybe people like eating those filter-particles.
Back at home, my family use Pur water filter and I have to say, you can definitely taste the difference. I think that the water filtered by Pur taste like Fiji water. It's awesome. Instead of buying those ridiculously-good-looking bottled Fiji water, I bought huge water containers and take water filtered from home to my school apartment and just drink it myself.
The only downside of Pur water filter is that it costs more than Brita filter. Being an Economics major, I calculated the cost of water per gallon (filtered). With each filter (Pur or Brita), it filters 40 gallons of water. Pur cost $24.99 for a 3-pack (Amazon.com), this means that it costs $.208 to filter a gallon of water (excluding the cost of water itself). Brita filter cost $15.99 for a 3-pack (Amazon.com), this means that it costs $.133 to filter a gallon of water (36% cheaper than Pur). Although it costs more, I still think it's worth the money. I rather spend the extra $.075 per gallon of water than to drink toilet water. |

| I have been using this filteration system for 4 years. One summer, I even took this filter with the pitcher to visit my family in India. I usually come down with a bout or two of stomach upset when I am visiting India. This time I did not have any problem. In the US the filter has performed very well. After the "new filter" taste goes away, the water tastes very good. My children never had any problem either. I don't know how cost effective it is over delivered drinking water, but it is certainly more convenient for some one like me who has back problems and cannot lift heavy 5 gallon water bottles. |
Good product, but be careful....

I have had a Pur water cooler for about three years now, back when the filters were flat on top with the little gauge that showed you when to change the filter.
I love Pur water products but it you have anything besides the pitcher, I would not buy these online. Proctor & Gamble changed the design to the one currently pictured (with the very high domed top) and they DO NOT fit the coolers. I am pretty sure they are okay with pitchers though. Over a year later, the redesigned filters are FINALLY making their way to the stores, but given my recent experience buying filters online (through another retailer) there are now three different styles floating (the flat topped filter, the one pictured, and the brand new one) around in stores' inventories, and I think they all have the same item numbers.
The new design is still domed, but much shorter, plus there are three very distinct holes on the top, which you can clearly see on the packaging. Also, I was told by Pur customer service that the filter must have a lot number, stamped on the bottom, starting in the 8000s.
So, if you are trying to purchase these filters for your cooler, go to a store: you cannot rely on pictures and item numbers, at least in my experience.
Also, many reviewers seem to be upset because there is no longer a "gauge" to tell you when to change the filter. I never go by this- use common sense and change the filters when the water starts to taste bad. |
Still the best on the market

| When PUR changed the style of the replacement cartridge, they didn't fit the PUR Canister. Since then, they have updated the cartridges and they fit perfectly (be sure to get the CRF 950z). No, they don't have the cute little indicator to tell you to change your filter. But here's a clue, people. When it takes longer for the water in the upper chamber to filter into the lower chamber, it's time to change the filter because it's getting clogged. I've been using the same canister for 12 years and have had to replace only the filters periodically. This unit gets used quite a bit and it goes through a filling every other day. The spigot is in great shape as well as the housing. I've given these as gifts to my friends and family. All are surprised at the difference it has made in the taste of their water, whether it's tap or well water. I have very hard water. Without filtration from the PUR, you can taste the iron, smell the sulphur, and see the calcium. With the PUR, no smells or taste. It's such a great product and works so well, I'm almost afraid they'll discontinue it. |
Pur over Brita, and neither softens water.

| Pur makes water filters for campers and backpackers, proving their abilities with water far worse and more suspect than your home tap. Only Katadyn has a better reputation for personal filtration, and Katadyn bought Pur. Rest assured, these are technologically solid and proven filters. So why Pur? I looked at Brita and Pur back in 1998, and found that Pur was filtering more harmful elements than Brita. While Brita may or may not have caught up, it hasn't surpassed Pur in quality, and I've put my trust in Pur before. Going with proven leaders, especially with your water, is smart. These filters have low-tech indicators that let you know when an allotaed volume of water has passed through the filter. If your water is generally clean, you can go a week or so past the "expiration" date. These filters are more expensive than Brita filters for pitchers, but I believe Pur is still catching more bad stuff. Finally, there are no "silver oxide pellets" in Brita filters. Don't take my word for it: check their website for proof. In fact, Brita specifically says it does not filter out sodium, the primary "hard" component of hard water. So make your choice by visiting each website, and seeing the list of harmful impurities and organisms filtered out; also check micron-sizes of filter elements and filter pores; and lastly, see which company has technology across the entire spectrum of filtration needs. You'll probably be shopping for a Pur 10-pack soon enough... |
The old Ultimate filters are gone. The new ones don't have a monitor

| I bought the four-pack last week and when it arrived I was dismayed to see that the orange monitor that told you when it was time to replace the filter was gone! I've looked all over the internet and no one is offering those Ultimates any more (except one seller on eBay. Maybe they're old stock). Then I went to the PurWater site (http://www.purwater.com/#/pitchers) and they are definitely not showing the old Ultimates with the monitor any more. Too bad, I really liked being told when to change the filter. Now they provide you with those stupid stick-ons to remind you to change the filter every two months. I'm just going to mark my kitchen calendar. I commiserate with all the reviewers who are puzzled and disappointed that this happened to us without any warning. I still rate the filters 5 stars because they are still (I assume!) a great filter. |

| I've lived and camped all over, including many places with funky tasting or dangerous tap/ river water. Sulfer in water smells the worst, many minerals and chemicals just taste bad and Giardia ridden water at camp sites will make you sick. Consequesntly, I'm a big fan of water-filters for camping and filter pitchers for home use; Pur is the best brand that I've used, for both. Do the research, Pur removes MORE impurities than other (more common) brands. After buying a pitcher, the replacement filters are easy to use, relatively quick and super effective (and cheaper, like everything else, when bought in bulk quantity). |
Great filter, great dispenser.

I live in Peru, in the Andes where, for `gringos', it is imperative to have filtered water or expensive bottle water. I have tested the water that is piped from the town water supply and it had fecal contamination.
I have used the Pur Dispenser for two years and, knock on plastic, have never be sick from bacterial enteropathogens. We are also careful in food preparation (Duh). Though the filter is slated for 40 gallons I have used it for at least twice that with good results.
I highly recommend, both the dispenser, and filter for those that have (or suspect they have) contaminate water. |
GREAT COUNTERTOP WATER SYSTEM

| We used the Britta system for almost 9 years to filter our nasty tasting local water. We were becoming dissatisfied with the "floating" carbon particles with each filter change and found that the filters were not taking out all of the bad taste. We decided to give the PUR countertop system a try - about the same price as Britta to set up - and were amazed at the better quality of filtered water! The taste is great and no more carbon floaters from the filters. The only "complaint" would be that these filters are harder to find and more expensive than Britta. The extra cost is worth it. |
Pur Small Pitcher Filters

| I have had a PUR water pitcher for about 6-7 years now. It's a good filter, the water tastes fine. I was a bit worried when I bought these filters that maybe my old pitcher wouldn't fit the newest filters, but everything worked well. I would recommend the PUR water filter pitcher to anyone. |

| We have been using PUR water system for almost 2 years, we are glad we switched to PUR from BRITA. As BRITA was giving all kinds of things in water even after filtering and PUR gives such a refreshing taste to the water that even in Phoenix we could drink tap water after filtering it. The price at amazon for 3 filter was just $10, which was great and we bought them for a year stock. Great Product, Great Price, Great taste. |

Clean Tasteless Water

| These filters really make water taste clean. The only problem is that they occasionally begin to filter more slowly. The solution is to remove the filter and give it a couple shakes. Not a big deal - I have only needed to do it once or twice during the life of a filter. The filters do their job well. Of the pitcher systems I have tried, this 2-stage system produces the best tasting water. |
For the Two-Stage Water Dispenser - can't get much better

| Reviewer: A. Dent, Minas Anor, GD |
We've been using the Two-Stage water dispenser for almost 2 years now and, in my view, it's the most convenient and effective water filtration system. If the dispenser is what makes the package convenient, it's the filter that makes it effective.
As far as I can tell, the 40-gallon replacement suggestion is way too conservative. We found that the water as as odor-free and fresh-tasting after 3 months of use as it did after one month. Overall, we are very happy with the quality of water and the filter's life. I believe that we replace filters after about 3 months.
These filters are:
- inexpensive
- effective
- easy to replace
Some may not like the fact that there is no indicator showing when it's time to replace the filter.
By the way, after reading some reviews on this page, I must say "thank you Amazon" for helping me always pick the right consumables for the items I buy from Amazon. All it takes is to go back to the listing for the Two-Stage dispenser and Amazon immediately shows me exactly which filter I am going to need. |

| Unlike many people who have ordered this product, I got exactly what I wanted. It fits my large PUR DS-1800Z 2 Stage Water Dispenser perfectly. Though the dispenser is a bit large for my mini-fridge, it works perfectly. I recommend the large dispenser if you drink a lot of water and a refill source is not close at hand. These filters take even the most unappealing water and make it quite tasty. Definitely worth it. |
PUR Water Pitcher Filter

| Although I am not a major water drinker, this water pitcher/filter system makes the water actually taste good. I drink it cold from the refrigerator, and I use it for tea, coffee, and even my Scottish Fold kitty likes it. The PUR products are great! |
same filter as the one came with the pitcher

| I bought my pitcher recently, so I missed out on how great these old filters with life meter were. But as far as I can tell these filters work just fine. And to the people who complain about it doesn't filter out fluoride, it's written on the box and explained in the document inside so it's ridiculous to fault a product for not doing something that's been explicitly stated it won't do. |
Cheaper Water

We have been using Pur for several years now and are very happy with the quality of our drinking water and the savings we've realized.
We've purchased Pur filters at Amazon, but discovered recently that they are available at a cheaper price (even with sales tax) at our local Wal-Mart. (Prices have been creeping up on Amazon.com.) |
The Best Water I've Tasted

| Reviewer: , Fresno, CA United States |
| My roommates always used Brita, but when I moved out and shopped for a water filter on my own, Pur was definitely the better choice. The filters are better-made and have a more-sophisticated filtering process, plus they automatically tell you when it's time to change them. The pitcher-style filter is best because it's easier to move it in/out of the fridge when I want cold/room temp. water, etc (unlike the under-sink ones that are attached to your faucet). I will never go back to Brita. |
