Great taste, more filling.

The 2-stage filter produces water that tastes so good, I've stopped drinking bottled water (at home, anyway). As a result I find myself filling the pitcher several times a day, much more often than I filled my Brita pitcher.
The functional design of the pitcher, however, could easily be better. Its pour spout is open to the air, while Brita's is covered, leaving the water exposed to dust, as well as to odors in the fridge. It's the equivalent of leaving a bottle of water uncapped all day or longer.
In addition, removing the top in order to add water requires more effort than it should; whoever designed it doesn't seem to have considered that the top must be separated from the filtration chamber. (For that purpose I've developed a technique where I pull the chamber up with my left hand while my right thumb releases the top from it.)
The LED light on top of the lid is activated by pouring, simply by the tilt of the pitcher. It's supposed to measure the amount of water you pour so you know when to get a new filter. If you pour one glass at a time, this will probably give you an accurate measurement. However, if you pour fractions of a glass, or potfulls, or if you tilt the lid when you remove it, it becomes a not very useful gimmick.
Despite the issues with the pitcher, which I hope someone at PUR takes seriously, the quality of the water makes this a product I'd recommend.

Gets the job done!

| I have now used both a faucet mount PUR filter and the PUR pitcher. I guess I have to say that I like them both. The only reason I got the pitcher was because I was sick of the faucet mount getting in my way. But both work equally well. I like the pitcher because it goes in the 'fridge so you have COLD water all the time. With the faucet mount, even though you run cold water through it, it isn't always as cold as from the 'fridge. But then, you don't have to wait for filtered water when you get it through the faucet mount. With the pitcher, you have to wait a little bit for the water to flow through the filter into the pitcher. Also, replacing the PUR pitcher filter is a little easier and a bit less messy than with the faucet mount. But like I said, I like them both, for different reasons. |
Love vs. Filter Changes

After struggling with several attach-to-faucet filters, I've settled on this little gem for all my water filtering and am wonderfully satisfied with but one caveat having to do with the 40 gallon or 2-month filter change recommendation.
Living alone, its size is perfect for my needs. Still, there's no way I'll use 40-gallons in a two-month period. Wondering if I could double the filter life somehow, my Googles failed to answer the question so when the little red light comes on, I just reset it for another 2-months. I haven't died yet, and the water in the second phase tastes great too and I'm sure it's still better than drinking from the tap.
I don't mind crawling in bed with Pur for filter replacements, but think that 2-month cycle is a bit on the greedy-side of selling filters--at least to the likes of penny-pinching moi. I subtracted a star for that. |

| I've done research to see how good the water purifiers are, and also how the water they filter is compared to bottle water. I have been purchasing bottled water for a long time now. My findings gave me the surity that the purified water, this system being the best for a picture style water purifier, is good. I am happy with the system after using it for 2 full weeks. The only thing is I'm probably going to look at getting the larger container for home use. This one is great for travel and at work. |

I have a reversed osmosis system at home and have not bought bottled water for home use for some time. However, at work I had to either buy bottled water or carry it from home. This is getting old. I know, tap water is perfectly safe but I can't stand the smell and sometimes, sediment. Just pour tap water into a clear glass and hold it up the light and you know what I am talking about.
Well, problem's solved. I used this water filter the first time today and can tell you that it tasted just as good as my water from home. Now I can just keep a container or a big glass here and drink this filtered water. I usually drink over 60 oz. of water a day at work, so this will definitely help. Because of the weight, I can ony carry one 32 oz. bottle in my briefcase so don't have enough for the day.
Other people have problem with the handle, I will see if it happens with mine.
After a week: Yes, the lid is not easy to open. Hit or miss. May be there some instruction on how to get the lid off, but I don't see it. It is not extremely difficult, but it is annoying. I still like this water filter. It tastes great. |

Pur Pitcher with LED- A perfect water filter pitcher!

| I purchased this water filter pitcher to replace a Brita Pitcher after I learned that Brita filters don't filter out any microbes or pharmaceuticals, but only chlorine, etc. The design is great. Unlike my previous Brita filterBRITA Water Filtration System Kit 1 Pitcher Vintage Model (Large Capacity) plus 2 Fliters this one consists of three easy to clean parts, the pitcher, the basin, and the lid. When you pour from the pitcher, the LED flashes, indicating the status of the filter. It's not measuring anything when you pour, pouring simply activates the LED and tells you how much time has passed since you set the timer, indicating its state as working or not. Though it may filter a tad slower than the Brita filter, the time difference is not significant, and the fact that it removes 96% of pharmaceuticals, and microbial cysts makes it well worth it. If you enjoy the convenience of having an LED to remind you when it's time to change filters, I would definitely recommend this model. If you don't mind using the stickers that come with the filters to remind you when to change, or have enough confidence in your memory to do without either, I would recommend saving the money and buying one of these models: PUR CR-6000 2 Stage Oval Water Pitcher or PUR Water Pitcher with Bonus Trial-Size Samples |

| I love this filter pitcher so much. In the past I've had Brita pitchers and an on tap filter. This is so much better. The water tastes perfect. I'm addicted to it and I drink water ALL day now. I'm more of a water drinker than I've ever been in my life now. I highly recommend it. |

| I was a little concerned about purchasing this pitcher because of the negative reviews regarding opening it. I bought it nevertheless because it seemed to filter better than Brita. I find it easy to open if opening as follows: Put one of your hands on top of the lid so you can hold it when it pops up (The hand on top plays no part in opening the pitcher. Its purpose is to just stop the lid from falling). With the other hand hold the handle same way as you would to pour water. Extend your thumb up and push on the corner of the lid. Lid pops up very easily. I can't really rate water taste because this is the first water purifying pitcher I've owned but I'm happy with it. |

This pitcher is a good way to have safer, cleaner water for you family to drink. The pitcher holds 7-eight ounce glasses of water and it is very attractive. The led indicator lets you know when it's time to change the
filter. I bought this as a gift for someone else, after seeing it and tasting the water, I am going to buy one for myself. |

I have had my Pur Pitcher for about 3 weeks now with no problems. I fill it in the sink, sit it on the counter for about 10 minutes to let it filter a bit and then stick it in the fridge.
We use it for a quick glass of water, to fill the coffee pot, or for anything else we feel we want cleaner-than-tap water for.
We certainly do notice a different in taste. The Pur water definitely tastes cleaner. I think we have decent city water to start with, so I am sure that helps with the filtration life, but I do wish it was at least 3 stage and not 2 stage.
I also wich it could fill itself. My significant other usually forgets the recipe for water and I am stuck filling the coffee pot with tap water in the morning ;)
UPDATE: ONE YEAR LATER
Still works like a charm. No cracks that others complained about. Just change the filter regularly and you have delicious, refreshing, clean water. And I am happy to report the GF learned to fill it up when she empties it ;) |

| I really found this pitcher useful, having had several designs from PUR before. My only objection to this model is the observation that the top seems tough to remove when changing the filter. It would be helpful if there were some type of directions imprinted in the plastic top near the back of the gray top (or near the top of gray portion of the handle) indicating how to release the top. Otherwise you are fiddling with the directions trying to find out how to remove the top. |
Good-tasting water, a little tricky to refill

| Reviewer: B. Pickett, Austin, TX USA |
I've had this pitcher for a few months now. We have okay tap water here, but water from the Pur pitcher tastes better, and I also like very much that I'm not wasting plastic bottles. I've tried a Brita dispenser before, as well as a Pur faucet-mounted filter, and I prefer this pitcher. The Pur water tastes better to me than the Brita water, and the faucet-mounted filter was always in the way.
I agree with others that the pitcher is difficult to fill and isn't the best design, but I tend to work at things until I find a trick to it. Here's how I fill mine (I'm right-handed):
1. I place my left hand on top of the pitcher, fingers toward the handle.
2. I place my left index finger on one side of the tail of the lid and my left thumb on the other side.
3. I pinch my finger and thumb together on the tail of the lid and raise it a bit.
4. Then, holding the handle with my right hand as if pouring, I press the pad of my right thumb firmly against the raised edge of the tail. I continue pressing forward and up with my thumb, and the lid comes off.
Obviously, it's also tricky to describe in words, but once you do it, you'll get it. Hope it works for you.
Overall, I'm happy with the pitcher. I've thought about getting the dispenser with the spigot, but the pitcher is easy to take in and out of the fridge. The lifespan of the filters seems short (or the indicator is dishonest), but it hasn't been much of a problem.
